Co-owner and Executive Chairman of GG Verk, Dottir Enterprises & Iða.
Mother of 4 amazing humans and 2 funny dogs.
I’m based in Reykjavik, Iceland, but I might be in the window seat of an airplane right now, since I can never stay still for long. I love traveling and exploring the world, which is an endless source of inspiration for me.
After graduating with a master’s degree in Strategic Management in 2009, in the midst of the world famous economic crash in Iceland, I decided to start my own company. That’s what happens when you have nothing to loose. Right?
My co-founder and I saw a growing need for financial services that focused primarily on the needs of the growing market of brave start-ups and SMEs in Iceland. Well…it turned out we were right! The business grew fast which enabled us to sell our little company debt-free four years later.
At the same time I really started to engage in the founding of a new liberal political party called “Björt framtíð” (e. Bright Future). We believed we could transform the political game in Iceland from its unethical reality (House of Cards anyone?) to a fair and honest playing field - where we could really make the world a better place. Kind of a political experiment, if you will. Although the experiment ended several years later by us realizing that there simply wasn’t as much demand for ethical politics as we thought (do I sound bitter?) - the journey was amazing. Against all odds, we managed to get several party members into parliament and eventually into the coalition government. In the midst of this I accidentally found myself as a Deputy MP and Chairman of the Party. That was never the plan. But you know what they say. Life is what happens when you’re too busy making (other) plans!
When my co-founder and I sold the financial services company in 2014, I joined a small construction company as CEO & CFO. Who knew that five years later we’d thirty folded our revenue and become the 7th largest construction company in Iceland?! What a ride.
Life is all about adventures. Right? In 2018 I decided it was time for a new adventure. So I signed up for a 3 year executive study in Harvard Business School called OPM (Owner President Management). Due to Covid the 3 year adventure turned into a 5 year adventure. Ending with Alumni in March 2022. It’s been an amazing journey to be a part of and a really transformative time.
